Offbeat Honeymoon Idea

One of the most fun parts about wedding planning is deciding where to go on your honeymoon. The most popular destinations are romantic beaches, like Hawaii or Mexico. Although these places certainly have a lot to offer, some couples prefer to do something a little more unique for their honeymoon.

You can be as creative as you want in making your honeymoon plans; there is no right or wrong way to do it, as long as you and your new spouse will be spending time together. For an affordable idea, a camping trip to a national park is a great idea. Explore the beauty of nature and dine under the night sky, all for a very reasonable fee. There is a wonderful variety in our nation's park system, from the majesty of Oregon's Crater Lake to the adventure of hiking the Appalachian Trail. Camping is a great bonding experience for an outdoorsy couple.

If camping is not your thing, consider planning your honeymoon around a great festival. For fall brides, there are great choices like Oktoberfest, which actually starts in late September. The world's largest public festival, Oktoberfest began as a celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince and his Princess in 1810. That makes it a perfect choice for a European honeymoon, not to mention a lot of fun!

For couples being married in the early part of the year, the spectacle of Carnival in Brazil would make an unforgettable honeymoon destination. The dates change each year, depending on Easter; for the next few years Carnival will be in February, but sometimes it occurs in March. It is a wild time, with costumes, parties, and parades. Carnival would be the ideal choice for a hedonistic newlywed trip. Be sure to bring your bridal jewelry with you - you will definitely want something fabulous to wear to the balls. Swarovski crystal bridal jewelry would make the perfect glamorous statement.

At the opposite end of the spectrum are volunteer honeymoons. Particularly popular with couples who are having "green" weddings, it is a chance to balance out the frivolity of a wedding by doing something good for the Earth and its' inhabitants. Choosing to spend your honeymoon doing something charitable doesn't mean that it will be all drudgery and no fun. For instance, one idea is to spend a week working on an organic farm...in France. Another is to volunteer at an elephant and rhino preserve in Zimbabwe. So not only does a service oriented honeymoon afford the newlyweds an opportunity to spend their time doing something meaningful, but they also get to see some incredible locations. (And there is nothing that says you couldn't spend a romantic weekend in Paris after you work on the organic farm!)

The honeymoon is the first time that the bride and groom get to spend alone together after the stress of wedding planning. Conventional honeymoon destinations are popular for a reason, of course, but it is also fun to choose a more creative place to go. A unique and romantic honeymoon will be the first of many wonderful memories created during your marriage.
